Mayhem Dominates My Favorite Ad Campaign

As I pondered the assignment of naming my favorite ad campaign, some of the classics ran through my mind like the Wendy's "Where's the beef?" television commercials and the old Micro Machines ads featuring the unforgettable John "Motor-Mouth" Moschitta, Jr. But the one campaign that has really stolen my heart and gives me a good laugh with each new installment is Allstate's mayhem commercials.

I like this ad campaign so much because the premise is tremendously clever and the utilization of slapstick comedy is spot on. Each commercial features the same guy dressed in a black business suit with a few Band-Aids and some noticeable bruising around his face. In the different scenarios of each commercial he is the catalyst for an incident that would require some sort of insurance that Allstate would specialize in covering. He plays the part of everything from a family of raccoons living in an attic to an "emotionally compromised" teenage girl driving like a maniac through a mall parking lot. He delivers the same sort of dead-pan humor and narration in all the different ads and they crack me up every time.

I think Allstate has struck a goldmine with this hilarious ad campaign and I anxiously await the next installment.

Check out two of my favorites below and if you like them, you can see the rest on Allstate's Youtube page. Cheers!

  1. I've always found that I only enjoy watching a few commercials...if any. However I would agree with you that AllState has struck an advertising goldmine with these short comedy sketches. Although the commercial is set up as if it were slapstick-esque comedy, it gets the message across effective. And ultimately the job of the commercial is to get the message out and successfully reach the audience.
